There’s nothing wrong with you

“That’s what my doctor told me, but I feel terrible!” Your world seems to be falling apart. You can’t think, can’t sleep, crying for nothing, but the doctor said everything is normal–you’re just fine! The well-meaning (?) doctor had given her an antidepressant and suggested she get out of the house more.

Perimenopause-when the ovaries begin to flicker and fade, sometimes making too much estradiol, the female sex hormone and sometimes not enough and no calming progesterone. Irregular menstrual cycles, maybe with night sweats, insomnia, and no libido, characterize perimenopause. Menopause occurs when the ovaries shut down completely–no estradiol, progesterone, and very little testosterone. In the person who is still getting periods erratically, the problem is probably related to progesterone and not estradiol at all! Lab values should guide therapy, but as we all know, it seldom/never does.

“There’s nothing wrong with you” happens to men, too. Recently an overweight man came to see me with symptoms of terrible fatigue, mild depression, weight gain, and a feeling of anxiety over all decisions. He had been involved in a terrorist situation and ever since then, he just felt weak and even despondent. Terrible stress can lower all hormones I told him. He had been instrumental in a good outcome of the terrorist encounter, but he felt morose and sad all the time and couldn’t stop thinking about it. He had used the prescription testosterone, but really felt no different. “Maybe, I’m just getting older, you know?”
“If you don’t get help, what will you do, retire? The world needs you! I can help! Let’s check three pages of detailed blood work. Get yourself back! Look, post-traumatic stress, a fancy word for the fact you lived through Hell, happened, and your hormones probably took a major dive. Let’s get your testosterone and maybe other hormones adjusted to bring you into a 30-year old range.”

Lab values have a notation, “normal for age”, which means that numbers decline with passing years. But, even bone density declines with age, and we know this thinning of bones is not optimal. Medications like bisphosphonates to prevent this age related decline are commonly prescribed. Same principle in restoration of sex hormones! Normal for age is usually not optimal. Side effects, detailed family history, and ordering of tests followed.
With major diet overhaul, vitamins, melatonin to aid sleep, and of course, wonderful injectable testosterone, his physical and great mental strength came back.

There’s nothing wrong with you that detailed blood work might reveal–knowledge is power. Do it.

Before you dismiss spending your money on the treatments provided by Dr Becker just think about this:
Americans spend…no sorry WASTE… millions of dollars a year on “health supplements” from vitamin stores, with labels claiming to “build MAJOR mass MUSCLE”, “increase SEX drive and ENERGY”, “Give you the slim trim physique in less than 3 weeks with no diet no exercise!”.
Let me guess; all these labels sound ridiculous and completely outlandish right??? Right; but how many of you have wondered into those stores and bought something to that degree hoping to change your life? Or how many of you know friends or family that have purchased these lies and even damaged themselves from taking them?
Most of the supplements sold at the stores have a tiny amount of the active ingredient and are loaded up with fillers. The companies get away with this because these supplements are not FDA approved. No monitoring goes into them at all. Most of the time you are lucky to find a bottle with the expiration date.
The cost of the average supplement can be $20-$180. So if the bottle has #60 capsules and the label recommends taking 2-4 capsules 2-4 times daily that bottle may only last you a few days. So if you buy three or more bottles at a $40 your bill is now $120 before taxes. Remember this may only last you maybe three weeks to one month. So, times that by five months, then you are at $600! $600 for something that more than likely will NOT WORK and is possibly BAD for your BODY. This is just one example of how one of those supplements can average tons of lost dollars over 5 months.
Doctor Becker has a medical degree, years of experience, and over 2000 patients with proven results. She only uses bio identical compounded medications and the only supplements that are given are based off YOUR blood levels. The cost for the entire program visits over ONE year is $1795. If you are that person spending $600 every five months on that one bottle of supplemental “energy, sex drive, and muscle enhancing” then you have wasted your money. Dr Becker treats men and women with hormone replacement therapy, thyroid disease, weight loss, fatigue, night sweats, hot flashes, low testosterone, and much more.
Let Doctor Becker help change your life and find out what you have been missing. Stop needless spending of your hard earned money and start changing your body and your mind towards a healthier happier you! Dr. Becker is devoted to helping her patients start a new chapter in their life and she continues to motivate as the patients make their journeys.
Your time and money provides you with amazing care from Dr. Becker, outstanding customer service from her staff, free advice from the Certified Professional Fitness trainer, and long lasting dedication to your health.

Why I do this.

by Enhancement of Life Center, PA on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 3:35pm ·

I am often asked, how did I begin treating people with age related hormone deficiency? Of course, it started with my own difficult menopause about 13 years ago (I am 63). At the time, I worked in various ER departments about 60 or more hours per week. I had to work hard because I had two children in college (Harvard and Temple) with no savings. Then, menopause hit with absolutely incapacitating hot flashes, memory loss, anxiety, and insomnia. I saw various specialists, tried the one size fits all synthetic hormones. Herbs, soy, horse estrogen-nothing worked. I became despondent and scared that I would no longer be able to work long hours. During a shift in the ER, one of the male doctors showed me an advertisement about an anti-aging doctor in another state. He had gone there and received a full anti-aging program with counseling for life style changes, vitamins, and hormones. He felt great and urged me to call his doctor. Within the week, I got an appointment and flew to Nevada. I walked out with a bag of supplements and hormone prescriptions exactly prescribed for me. My thyroid, although within normal range, was at the very lowest end. I still remember the doctor telling me that my thyroid function was suboptimal and how I argued with him, telling him that my thyroid levels were normal. But, I took the small dose of thyroid, along with the estradiol, testosterone, DHEA, and progesterone. Hormone restoration felt like a light bulb went on inside of my brain! I could think! Hands and feet warm! Follow up labs revealed that my thyroid levels remained in the normal range, but now at the upper end. I could work again, felt alive, real, and normal. Hot flashes, dryness, depression= GONE. I thanked God most fervently and resolved to help other women like me and men too, regain their lives. I went to seminars, read books, talked to experts in this emerging field. I took written and oral boards in the new, but still unrecognized specialty of Anti-Aging Medicine. Yes, there are side effects, risks, as well as benefits to hormone therapy. I will discuss these risks in detail with you: blood clots, stroke, and heart attack, to list only the most serious. Yes, not everyone is a candidate for HRT. Nutrition, exercise, stress management, and, when indicated Bio-identical hormone therapy may improve quality of life. You can afford me, and you deserve my help.

Consults walk in everyday at the clinic with common issues plaguing their lives, such as:
•	HOT FLASHES
•	NIGHT SWEATS
•	LOW OR NO LIBIDO
•	HAIR LOSS
•	VAGINAL DRYNESS
•	LOW OR NO ENERGY
•	HEADACHES
•	INSOMNIA
•	WEIGHT ISSUES
•	MALE ISSUES…LIKE LOW T.
Some people have all this wrapped up into one big tight ball and once they walk out of their consult with Doctor Becker it seems like she has loosened the tension and hope sparkles in their eyes. Many people are skeptical about HRT(Hormone Replacement Therapy), but I have had the honor of being an observer of many patients as they make their journey to a healthier and happier place.
Patients that are looking for a more holistic approach to weight loss and lifestyle changes are always delightfully satisfied with Doctor Becker’s recommendations. Doctor Becker doesn’t just throw bundles of medical terminology at her patients; she recommends books and movies that she herself has read and even used in her own daily routines. Lots of the movies she recommends are entertaining and surprisingly packed full of information you wish you had known years before!! The films are new and can even be view on Netflix if you have those kinds of services or even streamed for free on the internet. All the books she recommends are sold in her office at great prices and the staff will happily talk with you about each book.
Doctor Becker wants her patients to be fully armored with the knowledge and power to get into the best health possible. I hear all the time from patients how awesome her bedside manner is. One patient said to me,
“She really ANSWERS my questions…she doesn’t just roll her eyes and throw a big medical dictionary at me. She makes me feel good for asking and it lets me know, as her patient, that she really cares.”
At Enhancement of Life Center you are treated with respect and privacy. Not only is Doctor Becker extremely knowledgeable about HRT, but the staff is exceptionally helpful and extremely pleasant. Doctor Becker has a few staff members that are bilingual in Spanish and are ready to help at any time.
So if you are ready to be happy, and you really want to show, it if you are ready to be symptom free; call 210-545-5224 today for your FREE consultation with Doctor Becker!

For those who are not familiar with Dr Donna Becker, D.O. she cares for people and empowers them to be healthy no matter the stage of life they are in. Doctor Becker focuses her practice at Enhancement of Life Center, on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. She has an amazing approach to anti-aging care.

“I view aging as a treatable diseases. I firmly believe that the process of physical aging can be slowed, stopped, or even reversed through existing medical and scientific interventions. I believe that hormone replacement therapy is the key to a long and productive life.” -
Doctor Donna Becker, D.O.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and noticed about three different HRT advertisements. This foretold me that HRT is succeeding its way to the front lines of health and medicine for anti-aging treatments. I also realized something listening to these advertisements… there was no personality, no care or sincerity, just medical jumble. This is your future they are talking about. Your health! Almost seems like they were trying to convince people they HAD to use their services. So here is my solution: RESEACH your choices because you do have choices. This is America; choices are in abundance, so make the choice to keep reading more about EOL and what we offer. Doctor Becker is caring, sweet, incredibly intelligent, and sees you as a person not just a disease to be fixed.

Doctor Becker treats men and women for menopausal issues, patients looking to explore a more holistic approach to healthy lifestyle changes, thyroid cases, and much more. It is best to meet with Dr Becker for your consult to review your symptoms so she can start right away on enhancing your health!

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact EOL at any time! We look forward to hearing from you! Have a wonderful day.

Don’t worry I am here for you, so live your life!

Choosing to be healthy, fit, active, and in control of your future should be easy right…? Wrong, it is totally scary but you are not alone. You never know what people are going to say or how they will act, but never mind them because people throw rocks at things that shine. Making that decision to take your health to the next level and adding years to your life should be supported.
I am addicted to running, eating veggies, and keeping my health in check because I want to. I have always had an interest in fitness and health but in the last 4 years I have really made it a lifestyle. I am 5 foot 2 inches and weigh about 108lbs…..but…. I run about 100miles a month, barefoot, pushing the jogging stroller with my 9 month old daughter, and running my 60 pound pit bull….all at the same time. Then I come home and do about 15 minutes of interval training that includes pushups, pull ups, squats with weight, lunges, and core. I choose to be a vegetarian and I choose to avoid caffeine, soda, and fruit drinks. I only drink water and decaf green tea. Loads of people probably think I sound boring but I don’t care, and I don’t make excuses. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 6 years now and I don’t let it slow me down. Even after gaining 30 pounds with my pregnancy; I lost the weight and trained for a half marathon in 5 months after giving birth. It’s all about drive, determination, pride, health, and a good support system. I’ve noticed that in society being fit is sometimes looked down on….mostly by those that have nothing else to do but judge instead of looking at their own health. So join me and the other patients at Enhancement of Life Center and make a stand for balancing hormones, health, and a better lifestyle.
If you want to change your lifestyle, be more active, lose weight, adjust your thyroid or Estrogen hormone, Progesterone, or Testosterone hormone then call Enhancement of Life Center.
Dr Becker is experienced in helping you gain health and lose the weight, gain happiness and say good bye to the hot flashes and night sweats.
She can even help get your thyroid in check. Plus, anytime you need a little motivation you can always lean on the staff at Enhancement of Life. We have a licensed nurse, medical assistants, certified personal trainer, and of course Dr Becker.
You have nothing to lose but bad habits and everything to gain. Live your life starting now.
Free consultation takes only 15 minutes no commitments unless you choose! Call 210-545-5224

The human body is an amazing machine and when your hormones are working in a flawless rhythm your body is an unstoppable instrument! Just ask the patients that have completed Doctor Becker’s hormone replacement therapy program. I watched patients who walked into their consultation unhappy and no smile could claim their face. Two months later they are almost skipping into the clinic happy to jump on the scale and hear their new weight and blood pressure readings. Patients are excited to report their month of homework to anyone who will listen. They tell me stories of longer workouts in the gym, fitting into those skinny jeans, new meal plans for dinner that the whole family loves, and the smile never leaves their face.
Doctor Becker explains your hormones for you, starting with the major categories and working into the more detailed ones as your program progresses. The major hormones she works with are Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone. She calls them your EPT’s:
•	Estrogen has 3 forms: estradiol, estriol and estrone. Doctor Becker checks your levels of Estradiol and then prescribes medication that can be delivered by patches, gels, creams, or drops. Doctor Becker will go into detail about the three types of estrogens, but here is a quick run-down: Estradiol is the dominate estrogen when you are a young individual. Estriol is the dominate form of estrogen when a woman is lactating or pregnant and Estrone is the predominate estrogen in post-menopausal women.
•	Progesterone increases the breakdown of fat, every woman likes to hear that, and it may protect against cancer. Progesterone also maintains the endometrium of the uterus and protects against endometrial cancer. It is a natural diuretic, has natural anti-depressant benefits and helps restores libido. Lots of patients complain about their lack of sleep and progesterone may also promote sleep, calmness, and decreases bloating. Doctor Becker will also explain the synthetic side of hormones and how natural bio identical hormones are an overall better choice.
•	Testosterone is what Doctor Becker refers to as the “feel good” hormone. Doctor Becker explains to patients that a correct level of testosterone can improve well-being, increase energy, body composition, bone density, sexual function, and sensitivity of the nipples and other wanted areas of sensitivity. Doctor Becker prescribes it as a cream, to be applied to the area around the collar bones and other hairless portions of the body. For men, low levels of Testosterone may decrease sex drive and possibly cause erectile dysfunction. Other symptoms may include the lack of facial hair, like a manly beard, and sometimes body hair. Low testosterone can cause decreased muscle mass and development of breast tissue. Most levels of testosterone decline as men age.
Doctor Becker has an amazing program design and she makes each program tailored to each patient. This is why her patients see results, feel the results, and smile all day about their results.

The New Year is right around the corner and as a personal trainer I would like to give all a little head start on ideas for diet and exercise. I always want to let all future patients know that Doctor Becker now has a weight loss program full of diet tips, supplements, and motivation. If you want to get started on a new you call today to schedule your 15 min consult, it’s FREE and educational to all that are interested in a new and improved self for 2012!
So onto a little diet advice and workout tips for the coming new year!
A healthy well balanced diet is a successful key to keeping your body strong and stable for continued fitness goals. As a personal trainer I am asked many questions about diet such as: what are the best foods, supplement bars, and sports drinks to use before during and after workouts? For each individual client there will be a specific answer. When designing any type of dietary regiment a trainer must know their client’s medical history and fitness goal as these will all play a major role in food and hydration. As a trainer, I discuss with clients the appropriate carbohydrate, fat, and protein in takes for the before and after of intense training such as heavy strength training or intense sprinting. Diet will also affect overall endurance in a training regimen.
There is not a one size fits all when it comes to a perfect diet for pre and post workout. Fortunately, there are particular types of food categories that can be eaten at certain times to enhance the overall training schedules. When choosing a pre-exercise food the client’s type of activity and food tolerance must be put into consideration, because there are certain discomforts that can be brought on by foods such as acid reflex, abdominal cramping, nausea, gas, or unstable glucose levels. For a workout that is less than one hour an easy food choice can range from plain bagels or toast, plain pasta, or raisins. Workouts that are longer than one hour should be well fueled with low glycemic foods such as apples, chocolate milk, low fat fruit yogurt, or a supplement bar. These foods are rated low on the glycemic index and will help fuel your body through longer workout periods. By choosing the right pre workout diets a client will benefit by having a stable glucose level and prevent early fatigue. It’s always good to have carbohydrates eaten about an hour before workouts to be used as fuel. Remember try different things to find what works for you.
Always give plenty of time to effectively digest food so that it will be used by the body in the most appropriate ways and so that there are no disasters of revisiting a meal during a workout. For a moderate to intense workout that is longer than 30 minutes use a small amount of plain food and adequate hydration to keep stable and motivated. When the workout calls for a longer endurance of more than 60 minutes as a trainer, I make sure the client has a balance of fluid and carbohydrates. It is extremely important that the client replaces the fluid they lose while sweating. I advise having a sports drink that is enriched with carbohydrates and electrolytes or they can have water and a light snack such as a sports bar. Remember that all the dietary choices depend on the tolerance and workout regime.
Education on a proper recovery diet and stress upon the importance it has to the next day of training will keep motivation a priority. Training hard and for an extended period of time it is important that you need to recover with the correct amount of hydration. This can be achieved with sports drinks, water, or foods high in water content such as watermelon. If you enjoy soda this can be used as a carbohydrate supplement but otherwise there is no dietary relevance and it provides almost no minerals or vitamins for the body. Try to ingest carbohydrates within 15 minutes after the exercise has stopped. If you wait any longer glycogen stores will not be replenished and fatigue will set in. For the post workout diet, carbohydrate rich foods and drinks are the perfect choices. Protein is also a perfect recovery option because like a carbohydrate it can boost the production of insulin which in hand can help push glucose into the muscles to replace the glycogen loss. Do not have too much. Remember that too much of something is never good.
Always have a professional such as a certified personal fitness trainer or a doctor, like Doctor Becker, guide and monitor your before, during, and post workout diet. I encourage a healthy pre workout meal or snack, boost of continued fuel during workouts and stress the nutritional value of replenishing carbohydrates and fluids after a workout. I hope this gives others motivation to make a fitness goal and that this information can encourage others in their everyday lifestyle and will help them towards a long term goal of health, fitness, and happiness.

Happy New Years!
Sincerely,
Courtney Meyer
